Sandhill Healing Center is a VA Community Care provider, which means eligible veterans can receive acupuncture treatment here at no cost, paid through your VA benefits, without driving to a VA facility.
Dr. Karen Helmick treats veterans dealing with the things service leaves behind: chronic pain, old injuries, poor sleep, and a nervous system that won't stand down. Acupuncture is one of the few drug-free treatments the VA covers for pain, and for many veterans it's the first thing that has helped without a prescription attached. Care here is unhurried and private, and Dr. Karen takes the time to hear your whole story before treating anything.

1.GETTING YOUR VA REFERRAL
Ask your VA primary care provider for a Community Care referral for acupuncture By Dr. Karen. Once it's approved, the VA authorizes your visits and we handle the paperwork from there. Not sure how to start? Call us at 941-235-8929 and we'll walk you through it.
2. PAIN AND INJURY TREATMENT
Acupuncture for chronic back and neck pain, joint pain, old service injuries, and headaches. Treatment plans follow your VA authorization, and Dr. Karen coordinates with the rest of your care.
3. SLEEP AND STRESS SUPPORT
Gentle treatment focused on calming the nervous system — better sleep, less edge, more steadiness. Many veterans find this becomes the reason they keep coming, even when pain was what brought them in.
